BALLETS RUSSES modernism /

The artworks by the famous Russian modernist artists that were used in the Diaghilev theatre company ballets still arouse great interest of the audience. Sotheby's auction house organised an exhibition in honour of the 100-year anniversary of ”Ballets Russes” in Paris in 2008. One could see about 150 paintings, sketches, costumes, decorations, drawings, sculptures, photographs, manuscripts and programs there. The interior artworks by modern designer Juliana Nico presented today continue this tradition in a sense. Made in unusual polychrome silk, they not only reproduce the brilliance and picturesqueness, but also create a new interpretation of the works by famous theatre modernist artists from the Diaghilev circle - Leon Bakst and Aleksandra Ekster.
